The Association of Accredited Advertising Agents of Malaysia (4As) has appointed Datuk Vincent Lee as its honorary life president for his contributions to the advertising fraternity.

The appointment is also in recognition of his tireless service and commitment to the 4As and numerous initiatives, including the Putra Brand Awards, the Effie Awards  and the introduction of pitch fees that have raised the profile and significance of branding in the country.

"Datuk Vincent has been a courageous thought leader in the development phase of the creative economy," said  4As presidentTony Savarimuthu.

"He has been, and continues to be, an important advocate of creativity in business and the legitimacy of brand standards."

Lee, who served as the president of 4As  from 2005 to 2011, was given the award at a dinner attended by more than 100 advertising and media industry leaders.

"I am flattered by this honour, and feel privileged to have worked with some of the best people in the industry," said Lee, who is the executive deputy chairman of Star Publications (M) Bhd.

"Together, we worked to progress the industry to where it is today. I'm proud of what we have accomplished."

The 4As set out to promote the true value of agencies during his tenure as the 4As president, and this attracted many new members.

4As vice-president Johnny Mun said, as a leader, Lee "never shied away from a challenge, and worked tirelessly to build an impressive reputation for agencies as brand innovators."

Lee was also recognised for  services provided by ART, the daycare centre he created to teach art and theatre to the underprivileged.
